The December pick for our Record of the Month Club is a new project from our pal, Luther Dickinson, and the Walter Anderson Museum of Art.

Luther has been collaborating with the Walter Anderson Museum on the Mississippi Gulf Coast for a while now and this latest project seemed like the perfect thing for our Record of the Month Club.

Club Members will be getting a copy of Mississippi Murals, performed by Luther Dickinson, John Medeski, Johnny Vidacovich, and Dominic Davis. The album was inspired by “The Seven Climates of Ocean Springs,” a collection of murals by Walter Inglis Anderson.

From the record label:

In 2016, the Walter Anderson Museum of Art and Luther Dickinson set out to interpret the breathtaking Community Center Murals of American Regionalist, Walter Inglis Anderson through music. This venture followed in the footsteps of the adventurous artist who once wrote, “All movement is to invisible music although few people hear it. It comes from the sun and the wind and the movement of water and a running rabbit and crowing cock. All together it is part of a great symphony.”

Mississippi Murals captures the live recording of the second concert in the series, which Dickinson has headlined since 2016. The album features seven original musical compositions inspired by Walter Inglis Anderson’s iconic mural panels, created in 1951, which chronicle the natural beauty of the Southern landscape. Each track on the album corresponds to a specific mural panel, bringing to life Anderson’s vision of flora, fauna, and celestial bodies through Dickinson’s distinctive musical style.
